Roberto De Vicenzo
April 14, 1923 – June 1, 2017

The golfing world is saddened with the loss of Argentina’s greatest golfer and World Golf Hall of Fame Member Roberto De Vicenzo. He was 94. De Vicenzo was truly a global ambassador for the game of golf, winning more than 230 golf tournaments around the world, including the 1967 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) – the first Argentinian to capture a Major Championship. He was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1989 alongside Jim Barnes and Raymond Floyd.

De Vicenzo won 45 national open championships throughout Europe and South America and represented Argentina 17 times in the World Cup matches. Many remember him from the 1968 Masters where he infamously signed an incorrect scorecard, a mistake which stopped him from forcing a playoff with the winner Bob Goalby. After recognizing his mistake, he uttered his famous quote, “What a stupid I am.”

Roberto De Vicenzo was a giant in the world of golf and we celebrate the life and career of this outstanding gentleman. He will be sadly missed, but his legacy will live on in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
